Understanding Cha Cha timing/rhythm
East Coast Swing, originally known as ‘Eastern Swing’, uses a six count basic pattern with music employing 4 beats per measure. It consists of 2 triple steps, and a rock step, typically starting on the downbeat of music. It is usually danced to faster music, but can really be done to any range from 120-155 beats per minute. If you go any higher than that, you’re heading into Jive or Jitterbug territory (also fun dances!) You can learn the east coast swing basics here!
